Why Thrift?

Your shopping, volunteering, and donating with Helping Hands Thrift Stores supports the many different ways we impact our local and international communities. Along with humanitarian impact, thrifting is a great way to save money, find unique items, and support the environment!

Gift Card Program

We work with local churches, schools, nonprofits, and other organizations to identify families and children in need. Through our Gift Card Program, these families and children receive gift cards they can use in any of our three stores. Our stores have great items such as clothing, school supplies, household goods, and Christmas gifts and decorations that can be purchased with these gift cards.

In 2021, our Gift Card Program provided needy families and children with over $37,000 worth of gift cards.

Homeless Outreach

We donate physical goods and supplies to various groups focused on helping homeless people in our community.

We partner with Shower to the People, providing them with items for their clients.

Relief Organizations

We connect with groups who have “boots on the ground” by providing relief supplies, logistical and volunteer support. Our relief services include assistance through Rotary International in 2022 for Ukraine; in the 2014 landslide in Oso, Washington; in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina in 2005; and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

Global outreach

Along with Amor en Acción, our non-profit sister mission in Trujillo, Peru, we work with churches to build Sewing Centers. These Centers are safe places for women and children to gather and learn life-changing skills.

Our thrift stores provide donated sewing supplies for the centers. We also provide clean water, preschool education, and after school support at the centers.

Environmentally sound practices

Did you know we are helping save the planet? Not only does thrifting have a smaller carbon footprint than traditional retail we also are avid recyclers.

Our thrift stores practice the R’s of reducing, reusing, recycling, and repurposing. When items are reused and repurposed, we save resources and energy. We recycle many items like metal, electronics, and printer cartridges.

Saving Money

On a budget? Thrift shopping is for you! Our thrift stores help our guests save money. Unique finds are possible everyday in each of our stores!

Jobs and volunteerism

We contribute to our community’s economic health by providing jobs, back-to-work opportunities, and community service opportunities. We also have numerous volunteer positions in our office and stores, and for events and committees.
