Shannon Field

Shannon Field

Board Member and Executive Director

Shannon often jokes that Helping Hands is now a part of her family’s DNA. As a young sixteen-year-old, she volunteered to help with her church youth group, setting up a new thrift store that the church missionaries were starting. As she began volunteering, she noticed that the founder’s (Vance) son was around a lot. It was not a surprise that her second date with her now husband Andrew, was running the cash register the night the Thrift Store opened.

More

She has been actively involved since the beginning and found out she had a love for missions, fundraising, and writing. She went to work for World Concern on their development team after graduating from High School, learning how to develop strong donor relations, writing for a nonprofit and doing all she could to help those in need. When her father-in-law became ill, it was an easy “yes” to come alongside her husband and help to lead HHMI. She has spent the past six years focusing on donor relations and making sure we are “sharing our story.” There isn’t a job she hasn’t done here at HHMI over the past twenty-five years—even driving the forklift! She holds passionately that Helping Hands is a strong, sustainable organization, has a strong sense of duty, and is honored to be leading the second generation. She and her husband Andrew are happily married, for the past twenty-three years. Along with their six children Alex, Jacob, Dominic, Ruth, Noah, and Natalie, they live locally in Bothell. They spend as much time as they can in Peru, working in the community where her husband grew up. When not working, she spends as much time as she can with her family, is an avid reader and a coffee drinking Seattleite. She especially loves when her love of coffee and socializing are combined. You can call her any time to set up a coffee date and she’ll be there.
Jeffrey Hager

Jeffrey Hager

Director of Operations

Jeffrey Hager knows a little bit about many things…. Some of that knowledge is in retail management, some is in nonprofit management and some in facts that only are useful to him if he were on Jeopardy. He spent twenty plus years working for Sears in almost every department. He mixed paint, changed tires, assembled Christmas trees, managed divisions, operated stores and lead districts as a contract services manager. His experience in retail was noted by Toys “R” Us and he was hired away to lead stores. After his first trip to the impoverished villages in northern Guatemala there was a change in his path.

More

No longer wanting to serve corporations he decided, with his wife’s blessing, to immerse himself in his young children’s life. He took the position of Mr. Mom and became involved in their school, sports, Boy Scouts and other activities. In 2011 while looking for a part on the internet he ran across an employment posting for a Director of Operations at Helping Hands Ministries. They were looking for someone to run their thrift store that provided funds to help children in Peru. He had retail management experience, loved kids, and loved the idea of helping those in need. Five years and two more stores later….  Over the past five years Jeff has added a little bit of knowledge about travel. He has traveled on three Rotary International projects, he’s a member of the Rotary Club of Everett Port Gardner. He has been to Trujillo and Peru twice to see firsthand the impact his teams are making on the lives of families. Jeff lives in Everett with his wife Kelly and their three outstanding children; Katie, Billy and Capriel.

César “Coco” Alván

César “Coco” Alván

Executive Director, Amor en Acción, Peru

Coco has served as executive director of Amor en Acción since 2012. After retiring from a thriving career in the insurance industry, he applied his business expertise and experience toward serving the poor in his community. He is a longtime friend of Helping Hands and he and his wife Matilde were part of the Christian Mission Alliance in 1975 when Vance and Faith Field first moved to Trujillo. Coco has served on the Board of Directors of Amor en Acción since it was established in 1998. When Amor en Acción found itself in need of a new executive director, he offered to come out of retirement and serve.  Because of his strong leadership skills, and his position in the community, he made it possible for Amor en Acción to transition into a truly Peruvian-run organization. He has a heart for those in need and works hard for those in his community who struggle with extreme poverty.  He also recognizes the importance of early childhood education as a path out of poverty. He and Matilde both live in Trujillo and have two grown sons and two beautiful grandchildren.
Eisleen Arellano

Eisleen Arellano

Director of Projects, Amor en Acción, Peru

Eisleen serves as the Program Director of Amor en Acción. In 2001, she began attending the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Trujillo, Peru. Shortly after she began attending the church, she met Helping Hands’ founder Vance Field. He was in Trujillo helping the people living in the outskirts of her city. Eisleen knew it was a poor area, but after seeing firsthand alongside Pastor Vance, she felt God’s call on her life. She quit her job as a successful economist, sold her home, and moved to live in one of the poorest areas of Trujillo. She grew quickly into the role of Program Director and now oversees the development of all programs under Amor en Acción. She has a deep love for the community she serves and is often referred to as the Peruvian “Mother Teresa.”
María Alcántara

María Alcántara

Director of the Guesthouse, Amor en Acción, Peru

María and her husband Antenor were part of the youth group when Vance and Faith Field first came to Trujillo in 1975. They both had their lives changed and were called to the ministry, because of the direct work of Vance and Faith. María was part of the first seminary class that was established in the mid 80’s. When Vance left the mission field in the early 90’s and began working in a different capacity, she was the first to step up and help. She ran all the office work, accounting and bookkeeping. As Amor en Acción grew so did her job. She is now the Director of Administration and oversees all things administrative. She is also the first point of contact for anyone wanting to come and serve in Trujillo. She runs the guest house and takes care of everyone who stays there. “We just love María” is frequently expressed feedback–so much so that the hashtag #ilovemaria was started. She was born in Trujillo, and married her high-school sweetheart Antenor, who now serves as the head pastor of a church in Trujillo. They have two grown children, Jonathan and Wendy.  She and husband Dany have two teenage sons.
